In the 17th match minute, RWD Molenbeek was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Giovanni Saraiva to maneuver through the defense. Válter Lago sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Through an outstanding action, after 25 minutes, Delfim Vides successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Delfim Vides made a fantastic save in the 26th minute, when Flávio Fonseca sent off a good shot on target. When the match clock showed 27 minutes, the score became 1-0 when Luís Fernando Cardoso sped through RWD Molenbeek's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Delfim Vides. After a defensive mix-up in RWD Molenbeek's zone, Luís Fernando Cardoso stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Delfim Vides came out of the goal and Luís Fernando Cardoso tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Through an outstanding action, after 40 minutes, Delfim Vides successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Flávio Fonseca sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 45thth minute of the game Luís Fernando Cardoso who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but RWD Molenbeek's Delfim Vides was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. If Luís Fernando Cardoso had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Giovanni Saraiva was the one to do the kick off. In the 51st minute Luís Fernando Cardoso shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Delfim Vides saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 53 minutes into the match, Corinthians's Wilton Medeiros broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. RWD Molenbeek's Delfim Vides played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Flávio Fonseca in the 64th minute of play. When Luís Fernando Cardoso came up free with the goalie in the 65th minute, the Corinthians fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Luís Fernando Cardoso couldn't finish the play. Delfim Vides stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Luís Fernando Cardoso's shot from short distance in the 69th minute. In the 71st minute, Luís Fernando Cardoso made a precise shot to the right of Delfim Vides. RWD Molenbeek's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-0. If Carlos Fernando Donatello had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Delfim Vides took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Wágner Arce, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luís Fernando Cardoso in the 78th minute of play forced RWD Molenbeek's goalkeeper Delfim Vides to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Corinthians booed when RWD Molenbeek was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 82 match minutes in a wonderful position. Giovanni Saraiva didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 84 played minutes RWD Molenbeek got a freekick which was hit by Giovanni Saraiva. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luís Fernando Cardoso in the 90th minute of play forced RWD Molenbeek's goalkeeper Delfim Vides to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Válter Lago had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Delfim Vides showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luís Fernando Cardoso, who was totally free with the ball in the 93rd minute. Corinthians's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
