U21 Portugal's Daniel Ferreira played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Modest Pushkin in the 14th minute of play. Roman Makushev hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when João Tomas got free with Kirill Blindarev in the 18th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Through an outstanding action, after 29 minutes, Kirill Blindarev successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Daniel Ferreira made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ostap Romanov in the 30th minute of play. Daniel Ferreira showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Modest Pushkin, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. Amadeu Nogueira's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Kirill Blindarev read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 33rd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by German Rybin in the 38th minute of play forced U21 Portugal's goalkeeper Daniel Ferreira to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 47th minute, Armando Aleixo managed to get in a good position for a shot. U21 Portugal's supporters rose to their feet, but Armando Aleixo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Kirill Blindarev breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. U21 Russia's Elisey Apollonov was substituted for Modest Pushkin. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Jardel Coluna made a kick off. Kirill Blindarev showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Amadeu Nogueira in the 86th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in U21 Russia's zone, Romário Balda stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Kirill Blindarev came out of the goal and Romário Balda tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When the match clock showed 93 minutes, the score became 2-1 when Romário Balda sped through U21 Russia's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Kirill Blindarev.
