The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Carlos Gustavo Blanc took the kick off in the first half of the match. 3 minutes into the match, Florencio Bühler notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Austria's Ulrich Haupt. Ulrich Haupt was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 7th minute Peer Stocker shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Salvador Gaete saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ulrich Haupt showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Florencio Bühler in the 8th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Florencio Bühler in the 12th minute of play forced Austria's goalkeeper Ulrich Haupt to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Severiano Manzano struck a weak shot in the 13th minute. Ulrich Haupt didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Chile. Ulrich Haupt took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Severiano Manzano, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ulrich Haupt made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Carlos Gustavo Blanc in the 18th minute of play. Ulrich Haupt showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Florencio Bühler in the 23rd minute of the match. 24 minutes into the match, Austria's goal looked a bit too open when Severiano Manzano came free, but Ulrich Haupt reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 27th minute Hüseyin Sağlam shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Salvador Gaete saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Chile's Salvador Gaete played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dominik Jensen in the 33rd minute of play. Florencio Bühler sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 37 minutes into the match, Austria's goal looked a bit too open when Severiano Manzano came free, but Ulrich Haupt reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 38 played minutes Chile got a freekick which was hit by Enmanuel Dalgalarrando. Ulrich Haupt took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Severiano Manzano, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Chile's Salvador Gaete proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 41st minute of the match, managed to save Chile from getting a goal against them. Florencio Bühler's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ulrich Haupt read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 42nd minute of play. Carlos Gustavo Blanc fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ulrich Haupt having to interfere. A hard shot 47 in the game by Peer Stocker from a close distance when the talented Salvador Gaete managed to make a qualified save. Chile's players were relieved. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Björn Michalowicz stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute of the match Austria got a corner. Chile's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Benjamin Joeckel ran over to the corner to take the kick. Austria's Dominik Jensen was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Salvador Gaete in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. A collision led to Austria getting a freekick after 56 minutes play. Hubert Frankfurter hit a great ball. Ulrich Haupt made an important save on a dangerous shot by Severiano Manzano in the 61st minute. Severiano Manzano's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Ulrich Haupt firmly grabbed it by the left post. Peer Stocker fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Salvador Gaete having to interfere. Austria's Julien-Nils Peternell was substituted for Sascha-Andreas Lau. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Loreno Matamala in the 89th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ulrich Haupt saved Austria from getting behind. Salvador Gaete showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Björn Michalowicz in the 90th minute of the match. Marcos Pissa could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 93rd minute of the match, but Ulrich Haupt made a huge save. 94 minutes into the match, Florencio Bühler had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Ulrich Haupt. Austria's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Florencio Bühler was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. The Chile players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
