Spectators: 6413 (Terracing: 5413, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Bonsucesso FC's Fabinho França started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After a defensive mix-up in Bonsucesso FC's zone, Baltazar Linhares stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. José Pedro da Silveira came out of the goal and Baltazar Linhares tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Dedê Barbosa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without José Pedro da Silveira having to interfere. The supporters of Santos FC booed when Bonsucesso FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Osmar Teixeira didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Baltazar Linhares in the 18th minute of play forced Bonsucesso FC's goalkeeper José Pedro da Silveira to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Kléber Barral made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Osmar Teixeira in the 20th minute of play. After having played for 23 minutes, Luizinho Freitas managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Santos FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Luizinho Freitas was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Luizinho Freitas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Rogério Fonseca kicked well hit freekick during the 28th minute of the match. José Pedro da Silveira made a fantastic save in the 35th minute, when Tony Prado sent off a good shot on target. Santos FC's attack was well implemented in the 36th minute, but when Dedê Barbosa was about to shoot he didn't get a good hit on the ball and it hit the crossbar and flew over. Goal Kick. After 41 played minutes Santos FC got a freekick which was hit by Acácio Arantes. Fabinho França received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 43rd minute. Kléber Barral tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Luizinho Freitas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without José Pedro da Silveira having to interfere.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Dedê Barbosa was the one to do the kick off. Baltazar Linhares recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 52nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 54 minutes into the match, Santos FC's goalkeeper Kléber Barral had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Fred Mello. Fred Mello kicked well hit freekick during the 56th minute of the match. Dedê Barbosa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without José Pedro da Silveira having to interfere. When Tony Prado came up free with the goalie in the 65th minute, the Santos FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tony Prado couldn't finish the play. After some fancy dribbling in the 68th minute, Fabinho França managed to get in a good position for a shot. Bonsucesso FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Fabinho França was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Kléber Barral breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 74th minute, Osmar Teixeira left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Bonsucesso FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1.
