Roberto Machado's late challenge caught a Smashing PumpkinS's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Roberto Machado helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Smashing PumpkinS booed when Limão Com Mel was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Roberto Machado didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Válbson Alves in the 9th minute of play forced Limão Com Mel's goalkeeper Erik Cordeiro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Erik Cordeiro showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luís Paulo Fonseca, who was totally free with the ball in the 13th minute. If Luís Paulo Fonseca had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. When Roberto Machado came up free with the goalie in the 16th minute, the Limão Com Mel fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Roberto Machado couldn't finish the play. If Válbson Alves had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Erik Cordeiro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luís Paulo Fonseca in the 32nd minute of the match. It was a well-played corner which Ernesto Damião managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The audience was convinced that Roberto Machado's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Dráusio de Queirós was relentless in the 52nd minute of the game. Jailson Fontes kicked well hit freekick during the 78th minute of the match. Luís Paulo Fonseca sent away a hard shot on goal in the 79th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. The Limão Com Mel players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
