Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Sem Tinø ran back to his position shaking his head. Bobby Krier took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Sem Tinø, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Gerd Meyers hit a great freekick 8 minutes into the match. In the 9th match minute, U21 Luxembourg was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Theo Bäumler to maneuver through the defense. Bobby Krier showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eliseu Lucena, who was totally free with the ball in the 9th minute. Sem Tinø took the ball and in the 11 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Bobby Krier. Bobby Krier dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. After a defensive mix-up in U21 Luxembourg's zone, Eliseu Lucena stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Bobby Krier came out of the goal and Eliseu Lucena tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 19 minutes into the match, U21 Luxembourg's goal looked a bit too open when Sem Tinø came free, but Bobby Krier reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 21st minute, Eliseu Calado hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 23 minutes into the match, U21 Luxembourg's Jonathan Blumenthal sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Anselmo Gama narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The crowd rose to their feet as Leon Meyer kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Anselmo Gama. That made the score 1-2 in the 27 minute of play. In the 30th minute, Sem Tinø ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Bobby Krier was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-3. Anselmo Gama showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Leon Meyer in the 35th minute of the match. Lutz Knubel received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Anselmo Gama came out and tried to block the shot, but Lutz Knubel slotted it home off the left post making it 2-3 in the 37th minute. When the match clock showed 39 minutes, the score became 3-3 when Leon Meyer sped through U21 Portugal's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Anselmo Gama. Eliseu Lucena sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The score stood at 3-3 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Leon Meyer to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute Sem Tinø shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bobby Krier saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 55th match minute, U21 Luxembourg was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Theo Bäumler to maneuver through the defense. Bobby Krier made an important save on a dangerous shot by Sem Tinø in the 65th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Sem Tinø got free with Bobby Krier in the 65th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Sem Tinø took the ball and in the 70 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Bobby Krier. Anselmo Gama made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 4-5. After 83 played minutes U21 Luxembourg got a freekick which was hit by Tim Tudor. Nuno Madureira who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 84thth minute tested the skills of Bobby Krier when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Nuno Madureira could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 86th minute of the match, but Bobby Krier made a huge save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Robin Bruckmann in the 88th minute of play forced U21 Portugal's goalkeeper Anselmo Gama to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 89 minutes into the match, U21 Luxembourg's goalkeeper Bobby Krier had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Nuno Madureira. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched U21 Portugal eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
