I cant understand tactics

I understand the line set up, the powerplay and boxplay, etc. I can set the tactic. I also know the desired skills for each position. What i dont understand is the position of the players. How their position affects the performance in game. In soccer i know that i can put the sweeper behind two defenders to make a stronger defense (at least in theory, lol). Or i know that i can put 3 strikers instead of 2 if im playing against someone that lines up only three defenders. But in hockey i dont understand how much it changes when i move the Winger or the Anchorman around the area that is available in the tactics section. I simply dont know how it affects. And i have been reading the forums for a long time (spanish and english) and i would have thought this was a repeated question for newbies like me. However i haven seen any reference to it, rather than "take a look at the analyzer, experiment and make your own conclusions". I wonder if someone could explain a little further into this as im going crazy. Whether it works are not, I don't know. Haven't watched any matches lately. I went with what seemed logical to me. For box play I pulled the players back and in to try to defend the goal against a power play. For power play I advanced all the positions forward to try to score a goal. For position play just kind of middle of the road with center advanced forward a little bit. Having said that, I have played MZ hockey for only a month, and have no clue about hockey in the real world. That's my disclaimer.Whether it works are not, I don't know.
