GB and Ireland Federation?
By mattsadler - 18-02-2013 23:31
Would anyone be interested in joining it if it were to be started up? Thinking of doing the usual adult and u-18 friendly league/cup. Any ideas welcome.

Maybe could make it an Ashes federation?
Not sure how many members you'd get from UK, but we'd have about 20 users in total, so could possible join up?

I'd be up for that. Could probably get at least 10-15 from GB. Might spam a few managers later to see if they would be interested.

Hmm...is there is a spot for a decent, but non-British team there?

If you're doing something like that I'd say try to create a hockey version of Bessie; basically consistent FLs, a base English language and try to create a community around it. If you went with an Ashes fed, there's no real reason other than the name to leave out the Americans and Canadians.
I'd be a bit more tempted to limit participants from the big MZ hockey countries though, but that would probably have to be more of a vote amongst members.
I remember somebody ran a 'King Angus' league for 6-7 stagings but I don't think it ever got beyond one division.

Yeah, I like that idea. I remember King Angus too.
There were 6 editions.
Newcastle Eagles won 2, you won 2, I won 2.
The last 2 were called 'div A' and 'A League' - which to me suggests it might have had 2 levels?

Don't know what it is that annoys me but we must be able to come up with a better name than King Angus though.
Given hockey's status compared to football and to establish its tribute to Bessie (although not linked) I was going to suggest Prince Albert or Cousin Cletus, but have a much better idea than that - Uncle Ben!

Sounds good to me. The prestigious Uncle Ben's Cup/Bowl/Pot maybe? What groups did you have in the King Angus, as in which country represents which group?

There weren't really enough teams to have 'tribes'. I'm pretty sure all the teams were from UK or Australia.

"There weren't really enough teams to have 'tribes'. I'm pretty sure all the teams were from UK or Australia."
If that's the case maybe we should just start with the 'Ashes'. If we only get 5 teams each from UK and Australia we can still go ahead. Where if we start inviting other countries it could take longer to sort out. As its 'Hockey Ashes' we could make the whole thing up as we go along and invite other countries later on when its more established. Thoughts?

Agree - but don't play a FL with any less than 16 in it.

Will start that up asap. Should we start a federation or just crack straight on with the FL?

Fl invites sent out for Ashes. Depending on response might start Embers FL (U18) aswell.

Have now invited US and Canadians to the 'ASHES'. I am fully aware that the Ashes is between England and Australia but we have only got 6 SSL and 5 AIHL teams. Plus it's Hockey not cricket so if we could start some sort of rivalry between the English speaking countries that I don't really care what we call it later if it's remotely successful and we carry it on.
