Re: NFL
By dowopado - 16-11-2012 23:42
Was born and raised in Texas but live in Arizona now. Went to middle school and high school in the Dallas area. Used to work at the Cotton Bowl stadium, walking up and down the aisles selling popcorn and peanuts. This was in the 60's when the Cowboys just started (they sucked then). So you can see why I am kind of attached to them.
I like college football better. Much more rah, rah excitement at the games, and any given game can be an upset. The players really get into the game. Not like the pros where its a job to most of them.

Falcons look great this year. I love Tony Gonzalez. I like the Chiefs, but I hate the management and ownership for the embarrassing product they've given us this year. It's been 20 years since our last win in the playoffs, the longest active drought in the NFL. Chiefs fans are extremely supportive and dedicated to the team, despite repeated failures, but the front office seems unwilling to give us a competitive team. It's depressing.

Kansas City Chiefs originally were one of two teams that started the same time in 1960, Dallas Texans and Dallas Cowboys. The Texans were in the old AFL, and Cowboys were in the NFL. Sometime later the two leagues merged as one league, NFL, with two conferences, AFC and NFC. Thats when the Texans moved and became Kansas City Chiefs.
Anyhow, the Texans were my favorites originally until that move.
Yes the Falcons look good but don't rule out the Packers, Patriots and the sleeping Giants. The 49ers, too, if they could land a solid quaterback.

Don't forget the Steelers guys! :)
Nah but like you say, Falcons look good so far. Denver Broncos looks like a threat as well along with Texans. The Saints are dangerous offensively and Chicago Bears looks promising too. Gosh, there are too many teams to be considered.

College football, you refer to the NCAA? In that case yes I agree with that, usually very high scoring games compared to the pros, and exciting to watch :)

I must admit I don't follow it as closely as the NFL though, but I do check the scores every now and then. Sadly, I don't know of any way I can watch the games since they're not broadcasted here. That's the main reason why I don't have a good insight in the NCAA. However, which game is best for today? Any interesting fixture? :)

The Jaguars might be worst in the league but they've had two solid performances in a row now. Last week you pushed the Texans all the way into OT and yesterday you bet the Titans, quite impressively to me :)
Sadly for myself, Steelers lost away to Browns :/

@bighen
Not a big fan of Falcons, but they're having a lucky season it feels like. I rather see Jacksonville in the Super Bowl ;) but to stick to reality, I would like to see the Saints play the Super Bowl at their own home ground, or Patriots..
Steelers really need 'Big Ben' back asap, looked terrible last game vs Browns, I wanted to hide behind a pillow, it was awful.

so Houston Texans knock out the Cincinnati Bengals and end their Superbowl hopes.. quite expected
There's another game in the Wild Card playoffs, currently Packers are playing the Vikings
What do you guys think of the road to the superbowl? We're getting closer there :)) can't wait

@tpc1011
Exactly, I believe Redskins play the Seahawks today, it will be a brilliant game for sure.
Also, Ravens host the surprise team of the season - Colts, with Andrew Luck in good form I think they can cause some problems for Ravens
As you say, it's tough to make a prediction right now, but to me, Denver looks like a team that will go to the SuperBowl, that's all I dare to guess at so far.

Well the Redskins are out then, in my opinion they should have benched RG3 earlier as he was obviously struggling and when Cousins was called upon last time, he was brilliant. I'm definitely looking forward to the Packers against the 49ers, I think that'll be a great game.

@welshkamikaze
Kind of sad Redskins are out. It was pretty expected but after their magnificent start (14-0) in their first two ball possesions, and Seahawks didn't look sharp at first. I thought they'd win for sure.
Agreed that'll be a brilliant game, I think the 49ers will take that one, after overtime possibly. Also looking forward to see Denver with Peyton Manning :) I believe they'll face Ravens if I remember correctly. Oh well, whatsoever, a couple of nice games coming up :)

@tpc1011
Agreed what an amazing finish, well.. depends what side you're on of course, but from an neutral point of view it was a stunning game to watch. Sad to see Seahawks out, they were enjoyable to watch all season. Atlanta...they deserve it but I don't think they'll be enough!
Next up
Pats - Ravens
49ers - Falcons

My dear American friends I am Brazilian, and followed these holidays for the first time called NFL ... I can say, I loved seeing a new sport and already chosen a team to cheer that is the Baltimore Ravens (sorry if I wrote wrong) idetifique me with claw and determination of this team, thus forcing the player who is retiring to play more . I can say that now I have another passion.
still do not quite understand the sport, but I think I will learn over time.

@turbiii
I was just like you at first, didn't quite understood the rules. But after watching a couple of games, and googling the rules etc, it's quite clear :) Ravens, surely an awesome team.. Ray Lewis get to finish his career with a Super Bowl title would be truly amazing.

Yes. Ray Lewis has achieved the American dream. Escape a murder charge and regain the public's admiration through good deeds and great performances on the field. I actually respect his ability and competitiveness a lot.
San Francisco will be the favorite in the Super Bowl, but I think it could go either way. Both have great defenses. Whichever team makes fewer mistakes will be the winner.

@tpc1011
So true, he's awesome, you could see how emotional it was for him during the last two minutes of the game versus Patriots, he was teared up. I want Ravens to win, just for Lewis sake.
Will be an amazing final whatsoever. Two brothers coaching each side

Re: NFL
By turbiiiiii - 26-01-2013 02:38
it will be a really exciting end well, brothers dueling head to head coaches, retirement with great style, will be the first time I'll see the end, every time I saw the ravens play I said,'' it was going to lose the game Ray va retire'', but then saw the game and bang in the end, I'm rooting for them, but for me at the moment is worth the spectacle to come

I find it weird that it's 2 aussies of all people keeping the NFL thread active during the big game... I don't even know half the rules!
The superdome seeming very un-super right now with the power outage...

Re: NFL
By overthetop3 - 04-02-2013 03:35
Ok looks like the 49er's aren't done after all. Amazing play on both ends to claw back into it but they still need 2 more scores to get ahead...

Congrats Baltimore!
I gotta say it was fun watching this with fellow students that had no clue of what goes on in this sport, just like me.
We did get a bit loud near the end once we started understanding the rules, especially when we divided into two different set of fans randomly.
Glad to see my initial thought of; "hmmm, I pick the purple team, i like purple" turned out to be victorious guess, I should of put money on purple.
Amazing first exeperience of the sport, same thing next year? Alrighty then!

I liked the San Diego Chargers when I was in love with California (I supported the ducks in hockey but not cause of disney) - I watched a lot of games religiously but it was difficult living on the other side of the planet with hardly any broadcasting access. I then thought if there was anywhere in the world I could move to it would be Boston, so I started supporting the patriots and Boston Bruins (baseball did not bother me one bit). I played some football but had to quit it. I usually go through phases where I support teams but Boston has been the longest phase. I also support Notre Dame fighting Irish because of my love for glasgow celtic, there leprachaun seems to be everywhere and I just love the whole irishness about it... It was a decent final... I wouldn't say it was the best game I've seen but it was good. Some fast plays though!

my friends nor I knew how the sport was fun and exciting, in my holidays I saw the play off (as new'm sorry if wrong) and started rooting for every team that passed, but alas I identified with the Ravens, but I could not watch the super bowl (something never done before) because it fell on a Sunday and spend from 22:00 PM until 01:00 AM and on Monday as had class could not see
Anyone know good when they come to play? and if possible teach me a bit of sport as I am Brazilian football is my subject.

Jesse Williams becomes just the 2nd Australian to be picked in NFL draft history, and unless I'm mistaken the 2nd non-punter to become an NFL player as well. Have a feeling I'm going to be going for the Seahawks next season for that reason alone (well that and the fact they're one of the better teams right now :P).
